Britannia Oh Britannia!!!

Came across this coin recently and it was love at first sight. I am not into collecting coins but this coin was enough to arouse my curiosity. I was never artistically attracted to coins and currency notes before unless they are made of precious metals like Silver and Gold. Thats right I'm more into collecting investment grade Gold and Silver coins for it's intrinsic store of value.
All this changed when I saw this coin. I fell in love with this masjestic design and had to get my hands on it. As an added bonus this coin is 0.90 Silver. Well not exactly investment grade silver but close. 90% silver content is still ok for me.
So I delved deeper into the origin and history of this coin and I must say,
"Boy, have I been ignorant or what."
There is so much history and story behind this coin. So much information that I have decided to write a feature article on it. WIll upload the article on the article section once it is ready. Still sorting out the facts and arranging them in a reader-friendly manner.
For the moment this image depicts Lady Britannia, the matriachal embodiment  of Great Britain. Strangely I am developing a fascination and love of this artistic depiction of Lady Britannia. Keeping a look out for all forms of art depicting Lady Britannia.

GEEK "O" PHILIA IS BORN!!!

Geek "O" Philia is born!!! Hoorray!!! Another blog-site added to the blogging community!!!

I've been wanting to start my own blog for quite a some time already and as usual, this task drowned to the bottom of my task list, was only recently that I decided to take out this project from the dusty recesses of my mind.

After dusting away the dust bunnies and cobwebs, the idea of a blogging site once again lit up my mind. Thanks to several good buddies of mine, Geek "O" Philia is born. Why Geek "O" Philia, allow me to explain.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary,  the word "Geek" has the following meaning:

and the word "Philia" carries this meaning:

So personally the combination of these two words is the most appropriate choice of name for this blogsite.

In our own way, each of us has a certain degree of a "Geek" within us all and the "geeky" side of us is passionate and knowledgeable of a specific field that is of interest to us and maybe others out there too, hence the word "Philia".

The "O" in between these two words are symbolic in many ways. All encompassing and all rounded and more. Thus Geek "O" Phillia.

This name may or may not appeal to some but hey, give it a chance alright.

A GEEK, A BIBLIOPHILE AND MORE!!!

Not just any other "geek" with a computer from the little red dot of an island called Singapore. A "geek" with ideas, thoughts, knowledge and experience to share. That's right I'm a certified "geek" and I'm darn proud of it.

Before I continue further about myself, for the fun of it, let's see what the definition of "geek" is according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

Who say's the term "geek" has negative and boring associations. It's always the "geeks" who are more interesting and exciting. So fellow "geeks" out there, be proud of who you are and embrace your "geekiness". Be one with the "geek force". Ouh yeah!!! I'm digressing I know. Right... Back to my intro...

I'm a bibliophile with a penchant for stationeries and blank journals. Nothing is comparable to reading and writing text from a "musty" old book to reading and typing text on screen. The "smell" is just not the same.

For the ignorant, here's the definition of a "bibliophile" according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

To the "smartypants" out there, go figure, a "geek", a "bibliophile" and a computer, add em all up and you are gonna get.... I leave it to your I-M-A-G-I-N-A-T-I-O-N.

My blogging identity is "JoFedora". Some of you may feel that a full introduction is proper but I don't think so. Thats where the fun is for me. If you wanna know more about me, keep yourselves informed of my latest posts. I leave it to your creative psyche to form your opinion of me.

Till my next blog post, I look forward to reading your comments, suggestions, criticisms and all that jazz... that comes with the blogging package.
